Listen
Hear beyond your own part, into the whole.
Maple Dimension Arts Society is centred on musical expression and exchange. We want the understanding of a work, and the thought behind a performance, to become a sincere conversation between people.
The Society includes the Maple Dimension Philharmonic Orchestra. Most members are high school and university students, developing their artistic practice through shared musical interests, learning and collaboration.
Listening together. Responding through music.
As the Society’s orchestra, we value each individual voice and the understanding that grows through making music together. Our interpretations develop through exchange, and our expression grows through listening and response.
Hear beyond your own part, into the whole.
Let different interpretations meet within a work.
Bring an individual voice to a shared expression.
FOUNDING CHAIR
From thinking about performance to sharing music.
Troy Tang explores individual expression in classical music and how performers develop an artistic voice through collaboration. His developing research considers interpretation, the understanding of musical works, and relationships between artists and orchestras, with an interest in making the thinking behind performance choices accessible to listeners.
Through Maple Dimension Arts Society, he helps develop music research, exchange and creative work alongside students who share a love of music.
Members come from a range of conservatory-affiliated secondary schools, with the largest group from the Central Conservatory of Music’s affiliated school. Different educational backgrounds and musical disciplines meet through performance, composition and chamber music.
The former Central Executive Committee was based on nine core representatives. Following repeated delays, its operations were temporarily suspended, with the Chair’s Office (Society headquarters) handling interim administration, personnel matters and project arrangements. When the Society’s work resumed, the committee was reorganised as the Central Council. Existing nominal membership of the presidium and orchestra continued through the reorganisation.

IPPA SHANGHAI · 13 JUNE 2026 · PUBLIC TALK · CHINESE-LANGUAGE SESSION
Cross-modal metaphor and AI assistance in piano performance teaching
In this presentation, Troy Tang (唐安忆) draws on piano learning and pre-exam exchanges to explore how abstract directions such as “warmth” and “singing tone” can become sensations and actions a student can try. Everyday images, including flowing maple syrup, gauze and a pendulum, provide ways to discuss pedal timing, tone and phrasing.
The presentation also explores AI-assisted performance comparison and feedback, alongside stage expression and sustained learning. The cases reflect personal practice and observation, with AI feedback used as a reference for discussion.
DMAC Maple Dimension Arts Society and its orchestra conduct academic, artistic and musical activities on a not-for-profit basis. Registration as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in England and Wales is currently on hold for legal-related reasons.
